Guest guest
Just joining this group has been and exploration....I figure I will have to introduce vegetarian recipes a little at a time for all of us to get use to cooking without meat all of the time. I for one am not quite ready to give it up cold turkey....lol. I have never been a big bean eater....didn't get many as a kid....dh on the other hand loves them and so does our grandson so it would just be a matter of me getting to like them and I think it would just be a matter of finding the right way to cook them that I would like. Our grandson has never been a big red meat eater ....he likes all kinds of beans...don't know where he gets those taste buds....can't be from my side of the family. Anyways I have found several recipes here that I want to try and am going to try some of the bean recipes. I have recently been looking at the different squashes that we have in the store this time of the year and trying some of them. My dh brought home a couple of butternut squash last week and I baked them with a bit of brown sugar and they tasted really good. Squash is another think that I had not had a lot of as a kid so this is a new avenue for me. Tofu sounds like it will be another thing that I will have to try to really see if I like it or for that fact anyone in this family will like. I think it will just be a matter of finding the right combination of other foods with it before I jump in feet first. Thanks for you encouragement Ivy - Donnalilacflower<thelilacflower < > Saturday, November 10, 2007 5:08 AM Question Ivy I suggest you give it a try. It will pick up the flavor of whatever you are cooking. I eat it right out of the package with nothing on it, it doesn't really taste. You don't know until you give it a try. I try everything. I shop in ethnic stores and have no idea what the veg is. I take it home and if it looks like I can steam it I do, or I braise in a skillet or toss in a soup. I've always been pleasantly surprised. Come on venture out there and explore. Guest guest
There are so many wonderful foods out there. You will be retraining your taste buds as you embark on the vegetarian lifestyle. If you don't like something prepared one way, give it a try in another recipe. Some things you enjoy right off the bat and other things you just keep trying different ways, because you know it is so healthy and good for you. I used to not like brussel sprouts, but kept trying them, because they were so low in calories, good anti cancer fighter, and super healthy. Now I LOVE them. Here's to lots of fun trying many new things to round out your appetite and greatly increase your chances of good health.
