Come to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada and discovered a remedy for those mid-winter blahs, and enjoy the ten-day event in late January and early February. The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, the oldest mid winter festival in the eastern United States, will celebrate its 109th anniversary when it returns to the Adirondack Mountain village of Saranac Lake, NY from February 3 to February 12, 2006. The theme for 2006 is " The Roaring Twenties. " The Quebec Winter Carnival, Celebration in the Snow As early as 1894 the first celebrations of the Quebec Winter Carnival were already taking place. Quebec´s joyous mid-winter festival helped calm the day-to-day worries caused by an economic crisis affecting the whole continent.
