Guest guest
I guess some of you remember that I have been fighting cancer for the third time and had surgery Friday Dec 9. It turned out very well – got it all early and got everything. Before I left, some of you were discussing with me the tactics I could use for getting Vegan food in the hospital. Well. It all started, again, alas with the clear liquid diet. I had told the staff that I was a Vegan, what it meant, and as instructed by this group, I tried to lead these people toward a Hindu or Moslem diet. I explained the standard food for this diet, clear broth, jello, etc. were not going to be eaten by me. They were very puzzled, but listened. No dice. They absolutely wanted to help, and had no ability to understand. I ignored the food they brought me and made a valiant effort to convince them to let me have non-meat items. Moving on to the soft and regular diet. 5 times I was brought the standard meat-eaters diet. There was chicken, meat, milk, whole nine yards. By this time I was hungry, weak, and post-surgical. I tried to get them to understand, lord, I TRIED. No dice. I tried to get them to let someone bring me food. No dice. By this time they were beginning to mutter about me not eating properly after surgery. Alas, I did the best I could. I caved when they brought me, so proud of themselves, a nasty concoction of milk, cheese and egg in some sort of a cooked cube that I will not continue describing here. I had been several days without eating. What a conundrum, huh? Nice to be back in my own home, where I can recuperate and not have to starve to death to fight these battles. Nice to see you, again, though. Cynthia
Guest guest
Hi Cynthia I'm sorry to hear of your hospital plight - there was nothing else you could do - you need nourishment after surgery, of any kind! Luckily you will be able to get back to eating the way you like, and recovering more quickly. Good luck for your future health.
