Guest guest
I had contacted my local humane society to express my opinion that feathered cat toys should not be sold from the humane society gift shop. The response I got today was that the feathered toys were initially pulled until they could talk with their distributors. I was told that the good news was that the feathers are chicken feathers and a byproduct of the chicken industry and the person felt better knowing that the chickens weren't harmed directly in making the toys! I am still unclear what their decision was regarding stocking the toys and left another message for clarification. I then went to the Humane Society of the United States and found this article: http://www.hsus.org/farm_animals/farm_animals_news/still_a_jungle_out_there.html Ironic, isn't it? I couldn't find an orginazional chart on the local humane society website (or their board of directors), so I went to the Washington State Federation of Animal Care and Control Agencies and found a person who is on the Board of Directors of that organization and also affiliated with the local humane society of interest. I then emailed him my concerns and a link to the above article. I hope this all leads to the toys not being sold (and purchased with humane society money which then helps to support the farm animal industry that causes inhumane pain and suffering). My understanding is that the local humane society is independent of the national society and also is a nonprofit organization supported through memberships and donations. Guest guest
Oh, for heavens sake! Honestly, do people have the heads up their you know whats? Well, guess then I can go ahead and sit on that leather/cow skin couch. Maybe you can write a letter to the editor of the Seattle Times pointing out the inconsistency of the entire situation. How frustrating! I would be inclined to point out that benefiting from the chicken's death is the same as participating in its death. We need to make it less profitable for the chicken industry to make money off every single part of the chicken. Same with all of the farmed animals. Make a lot of noise and a small place like what you are dealing with will usually back off. They need to be afraid that they will loose some of their donation givers. A few well placed posters just might do the trick. I think that PETA has some stickers to do with chickens. linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Susan I had contacted my local humane society to express myopinion that feathered cat toys should not be soldfrom the humane society gift shop. The response I got today was that the feathered toyswere initially pulled until they could talk with theirdistributors.
