I would describe myself as a vegan but I appreciate that some people have no idea what a vegan is, so in order to inform those people about what I will eat, I tell them I am a strict vegetarian. Most people have some idea (maybe confused at times) what a vegetarian eats. For me, its about communication for their convenience, not semantics. I agree that vegan describes a lifestyle not a diet. But on the other hand, ther are others who will say they have a vegan diet- but not the lifestyle! > > --- herbvalerian <herbvalerian> wrote: > > In fact I tell some > > people that I am " a strict vegetarian " if I > > think they might not know what a vegan is. Guest guest
This is exactly how I explain it. Vegetarianism refers to dietary choices – being vegan is a lifestyle choice. I choose to eat no animal products, and even though I’ve purchased products in the past – I will not purchase products that are from animals, and as much as possible I’m changing products I use that are from companies that do animal testing. This explains it a lot easier for the people I deal with. Especially since I’ve been vegan for 2 months and I was omni prior. This wasn’t a gradual change – so I’m educating people without preaching. Although I still get the “but you eat fish right?” <roll eyes> LOL Candace Selph Check out the latest at www.mydietsucks.com www.pamperedchef.biz/candace On Behalf Of herbvalerian Monday, December 12, 2005 9:01 AM Re: Strict vegetarian or vegan --- In , Susan <oceanfest_2000> wrote: > > Sometimes it seems like people understand strict > vegetarian better than vegan.
