Guest guest
Sometimes it seems like people understand strict vegetarian better than vegan. I guess the first describes a diet and the second a lifestyle? Is that right? susan --- herbvalerian <herbvalerian wrote: In fact I tell some > people that I am " a strict vegetarian " if I > think they might not know what a vegan is. Guest guest
To me, but maybe not all people, being a vegan encompasses more than just not eating animals, but anything that was derived from an animal, even wool from shearing. It is a life style I suppose. It means paying attention to everything in my life to make sure that I am not buying anything that comes from an animal and therefore adds to their misery. It includes not taking part in and objecting to anything that uses animals for things like circuses, zoos, and entertainment. It is objecting, and standing up for animals who are defenseless and have only us to speak up for them. Now, I also know that a lot of people find some zoos to be acceptable since they are taking endangered species and trying to save them and breed them for future generations. That is a touchy one. If absolutely true in a particular zoo I would have to come to my own conclusion about that and would totally depend on the conditions that they were kept in... What I see happen in the vegan community and certainly happened to me was that once I became a vegan I saw so much more to do to practice Ahimsa. Once you open your heart and your eyes it gets to be endless. LOL But, I will say my head and heart feel as one. I would never call myself a strict vegetarian, because it really has nothing to do with a way of eating, but a way of seeing. linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Susan Sometimes it seems like people understand strictvegetarian better than vegan.
