Guest guest
The thing is with being a vegan it can be done step by step, but in the end if you want to be a vegan you have to read labels endlessly until you get familiar with the brands that are vegan or are marked vegan. There are tons of ingredients in food stuff that don't sound like meat, dairy or even eggs, but are. It is simple enough though to start out. If you start with your basic fresh produce and fruits, beans and rice and things like that you have a good start. Depending on where you are many of us can tell you what brands to look at. Now of course that doesn't address the idea that a vegan doesn't use any product with animal ingredients in them or is tested on animals. But there are plenty of products that are vegan and we can tell you some of those. Otherwise nearly all of the brands out there for personal care products contain animal products. I was reading the "Idiots Guide to Being a Vegan" today and liked how they put it: "being aware that there is suffering, feeling, and responsibility to do something about it and acting upon that feeling. As vegans we choose to do no harm and to live what we call a cruelty free lifestyle; clothes, foods, zoos, circus's, and animals in entertainment. As vegans we make a conscious effort to ensure that no animal had to suffer in any way in the creation of the products we use and the food we consume. We believe we can better sustain ourselves and the planet by using plant based renewable resources and by doing no harm to animals." linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Christa I think the idea of veganism is daunting at first, even to a longtime vegetarian. Then when I thought about it more, I realized I'd only have to slightly alter many of my favorite dishes at home - dining out is the main stumbling block, I guess. When you order something with no cheese, it's just so strange that often they "forget" and give it to you anyway. They must see the order in the kitchen and think "no cheese? That must be a mistake, everyone loves cheese!"
