Guest guest
Vegan recipes in cooking show First posted 04:55am (Mla time) Dec 03, 2005 By Mona GonzalezInquirer Editor's Note: Published on page A4-3 of the December 3, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer JU.D LAO has been promoting Filipino ingredients and dishes for quiet awhile on the Dai station, which is aired on more than 40 countries overseas (and every Thursday and Friday afternoon on Channel 55 in the Philippines). Now comes a new venture-a cooking show for vegan children. "We're taping 30 segments," shares Lao. "It complements my Vegan Children's Cookbook, which sold like hotcakes at the recent World Trade Book Fair." Fruitcakes Many Filipinos appreciate Ju.D's delicious fruitcakes, which are made with high-end, fresh ingredients. Ju.D made the world's first fruitcake cookie-the chewy chewkie-and the vegan ginger cookie. Then, there are her fruitcakes-Classic, Ju.D Gold (a dark-and-light fruitcake), Ju.D Blue (with Blue Mountain coffee), the prune cake and her newest creation, the ginger cranberry cake. (Call 633-1188 or 633-0260). Ju.D notes that children aren't fond of raw vegetables, "but they love my class because I teach them how to make salads on ice cream cones by adding alfalfa, lettuce, walnuts, raisins and cucumbers. They enjoy making them, too. I encourage parents to cook with their children, because the recipes are easy, and it's a nice way for families to bond." Co-hosts Ju.D's co-hosts on the show are a boy and a girl, aged eight and nine, respectively. In fact, the girl isn't a vegetarian. "It's always a challenge to find something that she'd like," Lao says, laughing. "Children don't lie-so when she likes the dish, I know that's a good compliment!" Ju.D promotes Philippine ingredients and food products. For example, she made kamote-cue-and children loved it! "They were amazed when I told them that, in the Philippines, you can buy them at street corners." Peter H Win a Vespa NEW - Cars has 3 Vespa LX125s to be won Enter Now!
