Guest guest
hope to bacchus he gets voted out next year http://www.audubon.org/campaign/Latest_News.html U.S. HOUSE VOTES TO GUT THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT Congressman Richard Pombo (R-CA) fast tracked his " Extinction Bill " through the House Resources committee and the House floor in about one week. The legislation is a rewrite of the Endangered Species Act and would gut our nation's core program aimed at bringing back birds and wildlife from the brink of extinction. The final floor vote of 229 to 193 was not a complete victory for Rep. Pombo and his colleagues who wanted to send a message to the Senate. Instead, a bipartisan group of lawmakers fought hard against the bill and was able to raise important concerns that will likely be part of heated debates as the legislation heads for the Senate. The Pombo " Extinction Bill " passed in the House (H.R. 3824) would substantially limit the government's responsibility to protect America's most vulnerable birds and wildlife. The legislation would: Eliminate habitat protections for endangered species. The Extinction Bill would get rid of " critical habitat " designations, thereby gutting protections for the places endangered species call home. Benefit wealthy special interests at the expense of endangered birds and wildlife. Rep. Pombo's legislation protects the interests of developers, loggers and other wealthy special interests while significantly weakening protections for wildlife on the brink of extinction. Give special breaks to polluters whose activities harm endangered birds and wildlife like the Bald Eagle. Pombo's bill would cut wildlife experts out of the process of approving harmful pesticides, which would take away the ability under the Endangered Species Act to stop pesticide use even when it is necessary to prevent extinction.
