Guest guest
Hi Linda > You guys are showing your male side. Sorry to tell you but SWMNBN rules. OK, I have to object to that.... admittedly, we are taking the mickey a bit of fundamentalism, and I'm assuming that this is joining in (although I have no idea what SWMNBN is).... but I do take it quite seriously when it's suggested that fundamentalism is a "male" thing... OK, I am a bit touchy about the whole gender stereotyping issue, but it is something that I believe causes great rifts in society which should simply not exist. Guest guest
The goddess rules. Hey I was just teasing you so don't go touchy on me. SWMNBN stands for "She Who Must Not Be Named." Remember I am over here...what the heck is taking the mickey. But, and however, thinking about it...the major religions as they are today were founded by men, run by men and the fundamental interpretation has come from men. Kind of a fact. Mary Baker Eddy would be an exception of course, but that isn't a major religion. You guys in here are obviously exceptional in your attitudes towards women...at least I hope so...but that doesn't apply to most men world wide. Maybe it is a matter of never having felt the sting of a male dominated world though. You can't address a problem that half of the population says exists unless you acknowledge the reality of the what the other half of the population is saying from their own experience. One thing that I like here are the zines put out by men that address the problems that women experience and do so in a sensitive non-denying manner. Now, back to the original point...I was teasing you...should have put a gazillion smilies on it I suppose, but kind of didn't expect to run into that here. And as a final, I do agree that men also suffer from the female point of view and their treatment of men at times. But the rifts are real, come from real people, and real experiences. But, I am old enough now to take back my own power, not worry about others trying to take it from me so that I can concentrate on life and all sentient beings and their welfare. I put that poorly...but maybe you get my drift even if we are on opposite sides of the ocean. linda "Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it."Mohandas Gandhi linda's Growing Stitchery Projects: womyn47 - Peter Wednesday, December 07, 2005 10:36 AM Re: Re: to all my groups Hi Linda > You guys are showing your male side. Guest guest
I too don't know what SWMNBN is - which is why I have been slow in commenting. I don't like generalisations, and I do hate the gender war that goes on and on and on.BBJo - Peter Wednesday, December 07, 2005 6:36 PM Re: Re: to all my groups Hi Linda > You guys are showing your male side. But, and > however, thinking about it...the major religions as they are today were founded by men, run by men > and the fundamental interpretation has come from men. Kind of a fact. They were indeed... although that has more to do with the fact that the societies they were founded in were highly patriachal. There has even been some suggestion that Mary Magdalene was more important in the views that have led to the creation of Christianity than Jesus, but that as a woman in a patriachal society she couldn't express those views. I would also point out that the religions founded in the last century which are rapidly gaining ground all have significant female input: Doreen Valiente, Cora Anderson, Starhawk, etc. etc. have all been high profile founders of religions in the past century. Of course, there have also been men founding religions as well, and in some cases (such as with Valiente and Anderson), there has been a "shared" founding (if that makes any sense). However, to return to the main point: just because the major religions were founded in patriachal societies, does not mean that all fundamentalists are men... and from a personal point of view, I have met *more* female fundamentalists than male.
