This month we will have an informal and supportive discussion about celebrating the holidays as a veg*n, which for many of us means celebrating it with non-veg family and friends. Our discussion is geared towards supporting vegetarians to understand the holiday, recognize relationship issues, understand emotions, choose how to behave, create a degree of divergence in our meat eating families, and share ideas and strategies to have really good food and a really good time. Carl Miller will be our guest facilitator. He is a counselor in Marin County and especially enjoys facilitating group discussion. Carl has been celebrating holidays for many years -- not always without ambivalence. Carl, vegan for the last two years, is currently engaged in a study of approaches to increasing empathy and compassion for animals and the environment. Thank You & Congratulations We want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate BAVeg's 4th Anniversary in October. It's hard to believe it has been four years already! A few individuals and organizations deserve our special thanks: Lyman, who organized and acquired the space for the party; lauren from Viva!USA who gave an inspiring presentation about Campaigning for Farmed Animals; and companies who generously donated: Fantastic Foods, Satya Magazine, and Sun Flour Baking. We even had a short presentation by the other vegetarian Lyman, Howard Lyman. If you missed the party but would still like to support Bay Area Vegetarians, financial contributions may be sent by check to: Bay Area Vegetarians, P.O. Box 371215, Montara, CA 94037. We are also looking for volunteer help (see "Help Wanted") For more details about the party, please visit the following page. As part of the event, we also acknowledged and awarded prizes for the Advocacy Rewards Program. Over 100 people participated, accumulating over 800,000 points, in the first year of the program, ending September 2005. Details on top earners and prize winners can be found at here. A new season has begun, starting with points earned at advocacy events in October. We'll again be giving away prizes to randomly selected winners as well as to the high point earners. It's free to register and participate in the Advocacy Rewards Program. Earn points by participating or organizing events like KFC Cruelty demos, letter writing parties, tabling outreach, leafleting, etc. Best of Veg 2005 - Vote Now! Last chance to vote in our annual BEST OF VEG survey! The truth of the matter is -- if you don't vote, you don't count.
