The man himself - mr modesty- ( apparently still tells everyone he is the best drummer in the world ) Hmmm... back in the 1980s he was a pretty impressive drummer. Last couple of times I saw him live, he couldn't even keep the double bass at an even beat. And, I think that it's fairly conclusive that Mike Portnoy is the best drummer in the world... he's won just about every drumming award, including "Modern Drummer's" Best Drummer award 10 years in a row!!!
