I haven't tried Chayote yet either, though Donna has urged me to. I only

tried jimica once and didn't care for it so I have to try it again. After all,

it took me 30 years to like peas and 35 to like pineapple. I can still barely

tolerate coconut. So I'll try things several times. Luckily, my husband knows

better than to berate me about trying new food. If I'm in the kitchen I'm

armed, so he keeps it quiet.

I never did really like pomegranates, though I like the juice. Anyone else?

Hello everyone! My name is Dallas and I'm new here. I was told this

is a good place to get veggie recipes, even though I'm not

vegetarian..well, not all the way....yet. I love veggies and so does

my husband and daughter, but I am at a loss at what to do with them

besides put them in a pot and boil or steam them.

So that's why I'm here..besides the fact that the price of meat

these days is awful and I'm trying to get away from buying so much of

it. I rarely ever buy fresh veggies, as they go bad REALLY quickly

around here.. as my husband and daughter will RARELY eat

leftovers.... they're weird! I, personally, love leftovers and have a

bat habbit of taking whatever is leftover in the fridge, throwing it

in a big pot and either making a " mess " , as I call it, out of it...

or add broth to the pot and make a " soup " of sorts... that really

grosses my husband out when I do that stuff... LOL... anyways... I

was also wondering... I noticed someone talking about Chyote the

other day... can anyone tell me what it tastes like? I'm skiddish

about buying stuff I've never tried because of, #1 the price and #2

if I don't like it, and don't eat it..and if my husband and daughter

try it and don't like it either... he gets mad because I " wasted

money on something that no one will eat " .. and I get tired of hearing

that line! So I just don't buy alot of different stuff.

Well, I'm 29 yrs old, disabled, SAHM... Well... I'll hush now as

I'm sure I've bored you poor people to death and you're going to kick

me out for rambling on....

Hope everyone is having a good night or day... where ever ya'll

are... Talk to you soon, I hope... Dallas

Chyote is a fairly mild squash that is good lightly steamed and then

served buttered. If your family does not like veggies very much then

you might want to just get a small one and try it yourself. Cook it

like you would a small, yellow crook neck or zucchini.

Hi Dallas! I hope you are enjoying the group :) I'm sure

you will find lots of new ideas for veggies here. Feel free

to ask questions!

I have never tried Chyote. I have wasted money on stuff I

didn't like, but I try to get new stuff when it is on sale

so I don't waste too much money.

Hey there... yeah, I'm learning to watch for certain stuff to go on sale so as I

can try it without having to hear my husband rant and rave... lol... he's a

tightwad! And I'm being totally serious... this man will actually pick up

pennies out of mud holes... lol.. I usually save alot by going to wal mart ( as

that's the only grocery store I trust around here) early in the mornings...

around 8 am... that's when I get all kinds of stuff on sale... bagged fresh

veggies, pizzas, salads... if I see a yellow or orange sticker, I go totally

nuts!
