I have a nephew who is a Civil War buff. He makes clothing and

accessories for the " soldiers " . All dies that he uses IN CLOTHING (not

in foods) he reaps from his surroundings. I find this so interesting.

He uses mustard flowers for gold, of course, onion skins for browns,

ink berries (poke) for purplish colors etc. He tries to be authentic

and use what was used during the Civil War period.

When I was in Sri Lanka, I would often see Buddhist monk's robes being

dyed with tumeric. It makes a lovely color (but doesn't smell very nice).

Peace,

Diane
