I forgot to say you can also take a little hot plate with you on trips.

travel ration suggestions

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions on what to take to Houston for emergency

rations. I don't know about others but I have had some interesting discussions

with the wait staff at various restaurants. I asked one time if the tomato bacon

sandwich could be served without bacon and there was a long wait while the

server and the kitchen staff discussed if it was possible. It was but it threw

off the numbers??? I guess they ended up with a surplus of bacon.

I ordered a plain cheese sandwich in one of those big restaurants along the

highway and the waiter was absolutely amazed that people ate such things. He

said his grandmother served one once but he hadn't seen one in years. I

explained what I wanted but I got 2 slices of bread and one thin slice of

cheese, no butter, no mayo, no lettuce. It was better than the other offerings

for sure but very uninspired. The manager came to ask me if my 'weird' (his

word) sandwich was OK. I gave him suggestions on some improvements in case

someone else wanted a similar meal.

On one flight south, I got a lovely meal but no dinner roll because they were

not on the vegetarian menu. I often wonder what was in the dinner roll that was

not veggie. The person beside me had a roll and it sure looked harmless. She

also had margarine and not butter.

I'm enjoying the recipes and have quite a collection after only a few days on

this list.

Thanks again to everyone
