Guest guest
Wow Katie, that is interesting and alarming for an owner of an apartment building. Did you ever talk with others there and see what they thought of the smell or if they just got used to it? I know when I worked at the hospital in the lab, our microbiology lab had a strong odor that was offensive at first. We had a door on that area. I did end up getting used to the smell though, so that when I worked in there, it didn't bother me. I wonder if that is the case in Germany where saurkraut is such a staple. When I open a can of saurkraut, I rinse it well, to get rid of the strong taste and smell. I brown some sliced up Loma Linda Linketts(vegetarian hot dogs in a can) and a pan with a little oil or Smart Balance Light, along with some celery and onion, diced small. I then add a can of drained Shelly Beans(basically Italian green beans and pinto beans mixed together) and saute that also. Then I put my Saurkraut into this and heat thru. It is very delicious!!!!! People in appartments make it and within a year even a new building will permanently stink of it. I guess they get used to it, but I wouldn't go into a German apartment building. I guess it you do it in a sealed crock it wouldn't smell so strong. I don't know. I have never been a fan of sauercraut. That probably has to do with the fact that when I was just 2 my little brother was born and for the 5 days my mother was in the hospital, my dad took care of me and he fed me canned sauerkraut and hot dogs for every meal, cause it was fast and easy. Guest guest
Maybe the smell was mouthwatering for them, I just don't know. The carpets and drapes and even the walls reeked of it.
