Guest guest
Years ago it was very hard, almost impossible to get fresh produce. Now days it comes in air freight twice a week to the local grocery stores. I also run a food co-op, ordering organic foods and produce our of oregon, so I get a shipment once a month right in my driveway. Today is co-op day and it is rather hectic, but well worth it. I also raise a lot of my own stuff, whatever I can with out short growing season. I wish the schools here had vegetarian stuff. My 15 year old granddaughter has such a hard time getting anything to eat at school. She practically lives on french fries and peanutbutter. She is picky about what she eats anyway and will turn up her nose at anything that doesn't look appealing. She refuses to eat eggplant just because she doesn't know anyone but me who does eat it. Now isn't that a teenager for you. What kind of school do you cook for. What I do with the kids at school is simply to put one *tiny* piece of vegetable on the plate, and don't make a fuss over whether or not it gets eaten. It doesn't hurt to have the child witness you eating the same thing. Eventually, curiosity will take over. Also, I find that raw baby carrots appeal to most kids because of their size and shape.
