Guest guest
Hi to all. My name is Linda and I live in Baltimore, MD. I've been reading the posts for the past week. My husband went away for work for a couple of weeks and I realized my weight had gone up to 247. I haven't been feeling well and felt I needed a change... a MASSIVE change. So I'm going to make a go of the vegetarian lifestyle. This is going to be a shock to my system, I'm sure. My only downfall I may have is I have a kidney stone that is called " Struvite stones are often called infection stones. They form in the presence of long standing infection with certain bacteria that are able to split the urea in urine into ammonium. This allows ammonium to complex with magnesium and phosphate in the urine to form stones. As the stones form bacteria are trapped within them. This ensures that more ammonium is made and the stones are able to grow. They continue growing, like coral, until the inside of the kidney is filled with stone. This is called a staghorn calculus because it looks like the antler of a deer on xray. With time infection can damage the kidney and even induce cancer. " Unfortunately, mine thrive on oxalate, Foods High in Oxalate (More than 10 mg per 1/2 cup serving) Beans string, wax Legume types (including baked beans canned in tomato sauce) Beets Blackberries Carob powder Celery Chocolate/cocoa other chocolate drink mixes Dark leafy greens Spinach Swiss chard Beet greens Endive, escarole Parsley Draft beer Fruit cake Eggplant Gooseberries Grits (white corn) Instant coffee (more than 8 oz/d) Leeks Nuts, nut butter Okra Peel: lemon, lime, orange Rasberries (black) Red currants Rhubarb Soy products (tofu) Spinach Strawberries Summer squash Sweet potatoes Tea Wheat bran Wheat germ http://gicare.com/pated/edtgs29.htm All of which I absolutely love. I already had one surgery January 2006 called a PCNL. The stone was 3 1/2 " long, branching off, filled my kidney and had already started to shut it down. The surgery went ok, and I went back for my one year follow-up in March 2007 and it's back. And I drink at least a gallon of water or fluids a day. I stay away from soda's. If I have 2 a week, that's alot, and if I do drink them, they're diet. I don't drink alot of milk either. Dairy or calcium is another huge kidney stone contributor. So I'm kindof stuck between a rock and a hard place. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need all of the help I can get. Thanks for reading! Linda Z.
