Soft Garlic Bread Sticks - Italian (TNT)

NOTE: Organic ingredients are recommended...

 

INGREDIENTS:

1 pkg active dry yeast

1 c warm water

1 tbsp honey (or cane sugar)

1/2 tsp salt

2 c whole wheat flour

1 egg

grated garlic (or garlic powder)

 

METHODS:

In large mixing bowl, combine yeast, warm water, honey (or sugar),

and salt.

Stir to dissolve and allow to sit 5 minutes.

Gradually stir in flour, blending well to make a smooth dough.

Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface

and knead until smooth and elastic, 8-10 minutes.

Divide dough into 12 equal pieces.

Roll each piece into pencil shaped bread stick.

Fold and twist a few times, place on greased baking sheet.

In a small bowl, combine egg with 1 tablespoon water.

Brush mixture over bread sticks and sprinkle garlic powder.

Cover and let rise 25 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Can also be topped with Parmesan cheese, sesame seeds or poppy seeds.

Make 12 bread sticks
