From Great American Home Baking. Next time I'm going to use Heath crunchies.

I left out the nuts as I don't like nuts in baked goods (plus we were

out...) and I don't like coconut so I left that out too.

Toffee-Topped Bars

Ingredients

* 2 cups flour

* 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar

* 1/2 cup (1 full stick) butter or margarine, softened

* 1 teaspoon baking powder

* 1/2 teaspoon salt

* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

* 1 cup milk

* 1 egg

* 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

* 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

* 1/4 cup unsweetened flaked coconut (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 13x9 inch baking pan, and

set aside. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the brown sugar and flour.

Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut the butter until the mixture

resembles coarse crumbs. Remove 1 cup of the mixture, and set this aside for

the

topping. Add the baking powder and salt to this bowl. Beat in the vanilla,

milk, and egg until a smooth batter forms. Pour the batter into your 9x13 pan.

In a separate bowl, combine the chocolate chips, walnuts and coconut.

Sprinkle this mxture over the top of the batter in the pan, along with the 1

cup

of crumb mixture you saved earlier. Spread the topping evenly over the

surface of the batter. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick poked into

the middle of the bars comes out clean. Let them cool, and enjoy!
