Alex Hershaft was arrested

FARM Founder and President Alex Hershaft was arrested Monday morning

for blocking a truck hauling pigs from entering the Smithfield

Packing Plant slaughterhouse in Smithfield, VA. The arrest followed

an all-night vigil by ten activists.

The plant slaughters 18,000 pigs per day. Smithfield Foods is the

world's largest killer of pigs, accounting for 20 million victims

per year.

 

The occasion was the 23rd annual observance of World Farm Animals

Day, featuring events <http://wfad.org/events> in all 50 states and

22 other countries. The observance continues through October
