The Future of Food, a feature documentary by Deborah Koons Garcia,

offers a startling look at the changes happening in our food system

today. For the first time, a feature film takes an in-depth look at

the takeover of our food supply by multinational corporations and the

widespread advent of unlabeled, patented, and unregulated genetically

modified crops and foods. The film will play in Laemmle Monica 4

September 16, 2005 - 1332 Second Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 -

(310) 394-9741 and widen thereafter.

Zuri Allen from the Organic Consumers Association will introduce and

discuss the issues raised in The Future of Food as they pertain to

California. Q & A to follow.

The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) is a grassroots non-profit

public interest organization campaigning for health, justice, and

sustainability. The OCA deals with crucial issues of food safety,

industrial agriculture, genetic engineering, corporate accountability,

and environmental sustainability. We are the only organization in the

US focused exclusively on the views and interests of the nation's

estimated ten million organic consumers.

Saturday September 17, to follow the 7:30 PM show

Sujatha Jahagirdar, Environmental Advocate, Environment California.

Environment California is a statewide, non-partisan organization

focusing exclusively on protecting California's air, water and open

spaces. We speak out and take action at the local, state and national

levels to improve the quality of our environment and our lives.

Environment California is the new home of CALPIRG's environmental

program. Environment California and CALPIRG believe that genetically

engineered food ingredients or crops should not be allowed on the

market unless independent safety testing demonstrates they have no

harmful effects on human health or the environment; They are labeled

to ensure the consumer's right-to-know; and the biotechnology

corporations that manufacture them are held responsible for any harm.

Environment California has specifically worked on the issue of

" biopharm " - the practice of manufacturing pharmaceuticals in farm

crops. www.environmentcalifornia.org/
