Guest guest
Thanks Nikki! I always like to ask people who are using the products. Healthy stuff is so expensive, my DH & DS are so picky and DH wigs out at wasted money, so the last thing I wanna do is get something that no one will eat or drink! I got my soy milk maker last week and tried out my first batch. I like it better than store bought. The only thing I didn't like much is that it felt chalky, but I'm guessing I just need to filter it better. I tried a tsp of vanilla in it and it was good, but I wonder if more is better. My DS didn't like it, but I'm having a really tough time weaning him off of sugar and fat (DH absolutely refuses to give up his really high fat/high sugar diet - which doesn't help) so I think more flavor is needed. What do y'all suggest? Jonnie earthstrm <nikkimack wrote: For the soy butter we use Earth Balance. For soy milk I like Soy Dream Enriched, the hubby uses Silk Light Vanilla (best on the fat content) and DS drinks Silk Chocolate. For potatoes though the Soy Dream is used. Chocalate or Vanilla potatoes doesn't sound too good to me. :)But we do substitute if we cannot get the brand we like. You can use whatever brand you wish, by what tastes best to you.Nikki , Jonnie Hellens <jonnie_hellens> wrote:> Thanks! Guest guest
Until Hubby's triglycerides skyrocketed (too much fat), he and our son did not really change their diets too much. I can say that they did adapt to Earth Balance soy butter very easily though. And believe me they are both picky, especially our son! They also liked some of the soy cheeses and my son likes alot of the soy meats and eats them without knowing that they are soy. But like you we do not have alot of money to spend trying things out and it did take some trial and error to find something not only they would like but me too! The one nice thing, though it did not save us money, was that the young girl across the street is veggie. So whenever I had a new product, I would share with her and we would try a lot of new stuff together. And if I bought something and turned out I didn't like it, she would get it and vice versa. At least the food wasn't going to waste! She has a similar problem as she would like to go vegan, but she is still in High School. And though her family supports her somewhat in her decisions (I try to help with this), they will not buy her all vegan products. So she does what she can. I'm not sure where you are located, but if there is a Trader Joe's near you, go there. They guarantee their food. If you do not like it, you can bring it back. And many times they have samples in the store or are willing to let you try things too. Good luck! The start is never easy, but it does get easier as you go along.
