Is fruit and cheese a meal or a snack? What about a fruit buffet?

Should you have at least one cooked meal a day?

I grew up with the idea that a meal was an assemblage of protein,

starch, and vegetable except breakfast which was a fruit and a

carbohydrate.

Well, as someone who has struggled with anorexia all of her life, I sure

hope fruit and cheese counts as a meal! Quite often I’ll just cut up a mix

of different fruits and some low fat cheeses and snack on that. In some of

my hardest times when I couldn’t make myself eat, and my son probably wasn’t

even 10 yet, he would know that if he fixed me a little bit of fruit and

cheese on a plate, I’d eat that. It may not be considered a complete meal,

but I don’t think it can be any worse for you than fast food.

When cooking for my kids (even though they're all grown now) I always

have a meat and at least 2 vegetables. For just my husband and

myself, we have been known to eat just a salad, fruit, vegetables

(especially when our corn is ready to pick,) or just the meat. Baked

potatoes are a particular favorite as a meal. I think anything that

satisfies your hunger makes an acceptable meal.

I apologize for mentioning meat as a meal in my other post on this

topic. I am working into a vegetarian lifestyle, but still eat meat.

My husband and sons usually consider a meatless meal incomplete.

Thankfully, they are beginning to realize there are wonderful

alternatives. They loved a vegetarian pasta with white sauce that I

created 2 weeks ago.
