Guest guest
I have ancient cookbooks (and I do mean ANCIENT – they were originally property of my mom who is 85 this year, my first mother in law who passed in 76, and one that was my grandmother’s – these books thought that Spam was an extremely proper food) and they do cover a lot of ground in the cooking and freezing aspects of different foods. While I’ve never canned – never been able to have a garden to grow enough to do it – I do remember canning w/ my mom when I was young and we always had a garden of about an acre. The directions they used then are just as relevant as anything you can find now, so you might look for some of the “antique” cookbooks people donate to thrift stores for canning and freezing tips. _____ On Behalf Of maxium62001 Tuesday, August 14, 2007 8:17 AM Home Canning; Deanna & All Interested Folks Over thirty years ago I sent for a pickling book (USDA) from Pueblo Colorado. It is well worn, by now, as am I. While the booklet numbers have changed, over the years, the information is still accurate. A lot of valuable information can be found at: http://www.uga. <http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/publications/publications_usda.html> edu/nchfp/publications/publications_usda.html I would imagine you can download a lot of this stuff, these days. Blessings and happy canning, Jack
Guest guest
I have 5 canning books that I purchased at my local thrift store. A couple are what you would call 'antique'. LOL. Not much has changed over the years except for the jars. I actually have two real antique glass top jars that I purchased at a yard sale. I love these and set them on the kitchen counter filled with pasta. Canning books and canning equipment can be purchased at thrift stores too for as little as a couple dollars. Well I am off to the Farmer's Market with my daughter and grand-daughter to buy some of our local peaches and corn. Make a rewarding , peaceful day Sending smiles and hugs your way Deanna in Colorado ********************************************************************** , " Penny French " <penny368 wrote: > > I have ancient cookbooks (and I do mean ANCIENT
