I was recently gifted with a well used wooden mortar and pestle that was made in Spain. I don't know what type of wood it is but it is great. The only problem is that sometimes the odor lingers so I put a small amount of baking soda in the motar and use the pestle to 'grind' it into the wood and the odor or particles are removed.
