Guest guest
thank you, thank you, thank you so very very much, yes i'd love to have a list of whatever info you may have, that would be great. i purchased a couple of books about vegetarians and vegans, and plan to do a whole lot of research regarding both and in the meantime i'd love to hear lots of info. thanks for the tip on the refried beans, would have never thought! what about ordering them at a restaurant, is it o.k. to ask? p.s. will it actually say gelatin in the ingredients or do they use a different term? wwjd <jtwigg wrote: As far as breakfast cereal, about the main thing to watch for is gelatin. It is in those frosted mini wheats and some other cereals. Just read the fine print ingredient list. Gelatin unfortunately is in a whole lot of things, from some margarines, some dips, medicene, most yogurts, and a whole lot more. Watch for animal stock/broth in things too. Smart Balance and Earth Balance don't contain gelatin or transfats. We love this product and it is all I buy for using as is or baking/cooking with. We love the Bare Naked Granola's, Kashi Go Lean Crunch(almond flax seed clusters), Cascade Farm Cereals, oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat and musili cereals very much. If it isn't meat it, it is ok. Nuts, grains, veggies, fruit, etc..... are great. Drink lots of water. BTW there are basically 2 kinds of vegetarians and both are on this list. Lacto-ova vegetarians, which eat dairy products and eggs along with the nuts, grains, veggies and fruit and Vegans, which only eat the nuts, grains, veggies and fruit. There are lots of meat substitutes out there on the market. If you would like a detailed list of these wonderful products, let me know and I'll send them to you. We have been lacto ova vegetarians all our life and have always used these products. They are really delicious and allow you to still make lots of your favorite recipes. Watch your canned Refried beans. Many have lard in them. There are some widely available in all grocery store that don't have it in them though. If you have chosen this diet to become healtier, then consider breads that are 100% Whole Wheat or !00% Whole Grains. They are much better for you than those with enriched wheat flour, which lacks a whole lot of nutrients that the !00 % Whole Grains/Wheat have. Become a label reader and eat lots of varieties of foods. Hope this helps. Judy
