Guest guest
I may have missed part of the thread...can I do a Kale smoothie in a blender? I don't have a juicer yet, but make smoothies in blender with frozen berries, ice, etc. I think greens would work ok in a blender? no carrots though I guess! , Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > > That sounds awesome to me. Guest guest
How exactly do you make smoothie, what do you use, give the scoop.. I thought they were more like milk shakes than anything and they used milk or yogurt or some kind of dairy.. Are they in place of a meal or what?? If not it sound like an awful lot of calories for me.. Bev , " Melissa " <mapalicka wrote: > > I may have missed part of the thread...can I do a Kale smoothie in a > blender? Guest guest
Woah! So much interest in the green smoothies! :-) I don't have a smoothie recipe -- I have a smoothie formula. I should add that Dr Fuhrman calls these " blended salads " . First, I don't juice the kale. I want the whole food. But I do use a powerful blender - a Vitamix. First I put in the banana (used to be fresh mango, but lately it's a banana). Then I add whatever veggies I want. Today it was a few carrots. Sometimes it's zucchini or summer squash. Or sometimes I get right to the other fruit. Then I add any other fresh fruit, like a tangerine or an apple or strawberries or blue berries. Then I add the frozen fruit. I buy it at Trader Joes and I love the frozen mango, mixed berries, and blueberries. Sometimes I use frozen pineapple, peaches or cherries. I fill the huge container about half full of fruit or fruit/veggies. Then I add the flax seed. About 1-2 tablespoons. If I'm using Goji berries, I add them here. Ditto with hemp seed. Then I add some unsweetened fruit juice. Lately it's been cherry but sometimes I use pomegranate or blueberry. I buy this at Trader Joes. I add enough juice (or juice and water) until it comes up about 3 " in the container, with the fruit in the bottom. Now, the container is half full. I jam pack the rest of the container with greens. I usually start with collards or chard or kale or dandelion greens. I might use a leaf or two of one or two different greens. I SQUISH them into the container. Finally, I fill the rest up to the tippy top with spinach. I can get several really large hand fulls in there. Like half a bag of spinach. Then I put on the top and get my tamper. I have to _really_ wail on that tamper. Once everything is going on its own, I remove the tamper and lick it clean. That tells me how sweet or spicy it's going to be. :-) Then I add a Pixie Vite (it's a powdered vitamin) because my kids won't eat them and I want to use them up. :-) The resulting smoothie is delicious, but can be a disgusting color. Sometimes it's really green. Sometimes it's poopy brown. But even my daughter likes them. A good way to get started is to throw a hand full or two of spinach into your smoothie. The taste of spinach is undetectable (unlike some of the more strongly flavored greens). Just one or two hand fulls will hardly even change the color. :-) Sharon Bev wrote: > How exactly do you make smoothie, what do you use, give the scoop.. > I thought they were more like milk shakes than anything and they > used milk or yogurt or some kind of dairy..
