Guest guest
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/24/opinion/24pubed.html the veg-specific part begins in paragraph 11. good scientific reference in there, eh? after reading the past several weeks worth of posts, and not responding, i have to say good luck to all y'all in the veg-averse parts of the world. the things i read here every day about what people say and do to some of y'all -- sneaking meat into a dinner? -- sound like reportage from another world to us. our family's rather fuzzy semi-vegetarianism is treated, universally, with respect and curiosity. i'm baffled as to where y'all live, who these disrespectful meatheads ARE, and how it is that they aren't as easily & effortlessly handled dealt with as we've found possible. we never preach or proselytize, and avoid EVER giving the impression that we think for a SECOND we're morally superior. we just... look great, act youthful & energetic, work out constantly, smile a lot, and try to set a good example. although, namaste and aloha to all y'all, if someone knowingly and intentionally dosed my wife or daughter with meat, first i'd kick the snot out of them, then i'd press charges and / or sue. back to lurk. keep the recipes coming! ron, in charlotte, NC, apparently a bastion of sophistication and tolerance

As I was reading this, I expected you to be from the UK or something, where people have already expressed it is not odd at all to be a vegetarian. Instead you live in NC! My Dad moved there a while ago (Durham area) from NH and found folks to be far more meat-centric than up here. He went to a work pot-luck, and whereas at his previous job they would have asked him ahead about his preferences, though I think they knew he was a vegetarian, no one gave it any consideration, and it turned out every dish, even the green beans, had some form of meat in it. Interesting. -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog/vegan-done-light.html
