Guest guest
I grow my cooking herbs indoors. If for some reason don't use them all say by winter - do I need to prune any of them or can I just let them grow forever? I have sweet basl, african blue basil, spearmint, oregano, rosemary and - dang I can't remember the last one LOL Sage probably.... All my lavender is outside for ornamental purposes but I imagine I'll bring it in at some point come November..... Guest guest
I've never had any luck growning herbs inside. They like a lot of sun and do great for me in pots on the patio. I'm glad you've had good luck with your herbs inside. I've tried to keep my basil plants alive inside over the winter but they get pale leaves and get gangly. It always made me sad when the frost killed them back each year. I cut off all their leaves and put into a baggie in the refrig the night before the first frost, so I at least have that last batch. Guest guest
If you prune them back in the fall and give them a nice feeding of a good mild organic fertilizer,NKP 5-1-1, I personally use Fish emulsion, but any good organic high nitrogen fertilizer will work, like compost teas, ureas or gauno's as long as it's organic (JUST NO BLUE WATER) - you will get a bumper crop before winter's first freeze, and beyond, especially in a greenhouse or " covered " indoor environment, where there is plenty of sunshine. I know some of you will say the fish emulsion smells, however it will not burn your tender plants, unless you just totally overfeed them and it's very cost effective. I just open the windows while feeding and the smell decipates withn a few minutes or so, with a fan running! doc , " Nicole W. " <cdwdnw wrote: > > I grow my cooking herbs indoors.
