I've been looking for some answers and one of the questions that came to mind is the recommended grams of protein. I found one site that said it should be determined by height and gender, another said a blanket 50 grams is recommended. My recommended grams is 25 6 to 45. 5 and then Den's is 35.2 to 62.5 according to our height and gender The 50 grams falls some where in between for both of us so I would suppose the blanket 50 grams would be sufficient. But then, Den drives a semi and I would consider that his sitting behind with steering wheel 8-10 hours a day would be really considered sedentary. So should I go with the lower amount according to his gender and height.? I'm sorry for being pesky, but if we're going to do this we're going to do it well. You touched on a really important point: lifestyle. The calculation from The Vegetaria Athlete is based on how active you are, how much you weigh, your gender, and how tall you are. The really interesting thing that the book highlights though, is that it's rare to find a vegetarian who is lacking in protein. If you stick to whole foods, including grains and legumes, veggies and fruit, little to no processed food, you will not have any trouble meeting your protein needs. I'm at work. My book is at home. I could send in the calculation tomorrow morning, if you can wait that long. Otherwise, they might have the book at your local library... or someone might have it here Cheers!
