Guest guest
Thanks Gayle and All, I know that the " dip thingy, " which is layered refried beans, [no lard,] black beans, *cheese, chilies, chopped lettuce and sour cream, salsa... is YUM. I think this is something good for a teen gathering. I have learned to remove any animal products, in the cheese and in the sour cream, which a few years ago would have been impossible. *Toasted tortillas for dipping it up! Various vegetarian suppliers are helpful. True they are wishing to sell, but some suppliers follow an easier way by not worrying about health. I find many tofu items to be so tasty. I do like to eliminate as much fat, in the cooking, as possible, but a lot of recipes use a lot of frying with different coating, even on tofu. I have learned to use the no lard *tortillas, cut and baked for snack crackers. How hard it is to resist " Elephant Ears " at state fairs or special events. Much as I love a good Indian fry bread, I try to steer away. I am pretty sure lard is factored in [Avoiding: How can that be and still carry extra weight...too many sweets, is the answer. I don't think I can change this at my age, it is too satisfying] I find a good salad to be fine but I love the dressing. Another weight problem area. Best wishes to you all.
