Guest guest
Hi Sue, Sorry for the delay in a reply. We've had company and I haven't had a chance to get on the computer to reply. The Loma Linda Prime Stakes are in a gravy and just meant to heat and serve the way they are. They have a delicious flavor, though I do prefer the Worthington Swiss Stakes that are almost identical to these. One of my sister's family prefers the Prime Stakes more though, so LOL it is all a matter of ones tastes buds. I have a great recipe that I chop them up and use them to make stroganoff in though. I can't rememeber if I have sent that to the group yet or not. I'll check the files and if I haven't I'll send that one in . But as to your question, they won't lend themselves to your recipe for Pizza though. I would use the Worthington Vegetarian Burger or the Loma Linda Vegi-burger for your pizza. They are like crumbles packed into a can. I use a fork to pull it out of the can and brown it a little in a frying pan with a tiny bit of oil, before adding to a pizza, as a topping. Share your recipe that you are trying to make, please. Enjoy your Loma Linda Prime Stakes. Makes a yummy entree, just heated with that gravy and served with some mashed potatoes and green beans........ Yummmmmm. Got me hungry now. Judy - Sue Friday, May 18, 2007 9:52 AM PING: Judy I want to make a crustless pizza. The recipe calls for lean b**f mixed with shredded cheese and then spread out in a pie plate.. I have a can of Loma Linda Prime Stakes. What is the texture of that. Is this doable? I hate to open the can and find I would have to make something else. Guest guest
Thanks for the answer, Judy. Ok, the recipe I used was: Meat Crust Pizza: Brown about 2 pds of extra lean ground beef (sorry, folks, I am just repeating the recipe. Mine to follow) Preheat over to 350. Put beef in a large bowl and mix well with 2 cups of mozzarella cheese. Spread mixture out like a pizza crust on a cookie sheet or a baking stone. Put 1 cup pizza sauce on the mixture. Add anything you like on your pizza. Top with 1-2 cups cheese. Cook 15 minutes or so until cheese starts to brown. MY RECIPE: 1 can of Prime Stakes. (I gave the gravy to the dogs. They loved it) I mashed it up and added the cheese. Here is where I made a mistake: I put the stake and cheese in a pie pan....patting it up the sides to form a pie crust, instead of a pizza crust. I put it in the over until it browned. Next I added the pizza sauce....well, the sauce puddled down in the middle of the pie pan. Way too much sauce. Ok....next I added onions, mushrooms, and green pepper. Stan wouldn't let me put on banana peppers. LOL Next I added a mix of veggie mozzarella cheese and cheddar. Put it back in the oven until the cheese started to brown. It was pretty good, but way to much pizza sauce in the middle. My husband, who is a pizza addict, proclaimed it a " keeper " . But, to go easy on the sauce. Next time, I will make it flat....not like a pie crust, but more like a pizza crust. BTW, after I baked this, I found a can of burgers up in the cupboard. I will use those next time. BTW-2. Have you seen Rachel Ray's Pizzania: http://tinyurl.com/zxnbb I think I can make this vegetarian.
