Guest guest
Hi Sheila: We call our " brand " of vegetarianism " meat-optional " at our house. We started eating less meat and more vegetarian dishes as we met several families that are vegetarians. We were not sure about how " rigid " we wanted to be with the vegetarian-ism either; thus, the name meat-optional, meaning that most of our meals have NO meat, but if we are craving a little something, we're going with fish or chicken. No more red meat in our house. I would say that 90% to 95% of our meals are vegetarian now. We've been doing this since January and my husband has lost nearly 35 pounds without counting calories or feeling deprived. Also, his cholesterol has decreased by 50 points in that time period. So, we're " meat-optional " and maybe eventually truly " vegetarian " for good! Welcome to the group. I've learned so much here. Jennifer in NM - ArmandaLegg Friday, May 18, 2007 11:35 AM Intro My name is Sheila and I live in California. So ... I want to make the transition from being an omnivore to a herbivore. I'm not sure how rigid I want to be about being a vegetarian but I know I have to assume a more healthy eating pattern. I am hoping to get some good ideas and recipes here.
