Guest guest
I come from Connecticut, and Mangoes were on sale for 19 cents per pound. I raced to the store to make some good jelly. The produce manager pointed me to the green vegetables and told me they were mangoes. Not so!! They were green Bell Peppers and I told him to check out mangoes in Webster's!!! I have family who moved from Wisconsin to northeastern Indiana (about 20 miles southwest of Fort Wayne) about 20 years ago. When they moved there, they had no idea they were moving to the " deep south " -- I mean, come on, this is Indiana, not Louisiana! But lo and behold, everyone in the area spoke with a southern accent, and called those green veggies in the store " mangoes. " I was so confused because to me, that's a green bell pepper, always was and always will be. My stepbrother eventually married a woman who was born and raised in the area. They moved back to Wisconsin briefly, and she was horribly confused when she went to the grocieries store here looking for mangoes for her salad, and there were these round fruits and not the green peppers. I never understood why they call green peppers " mangoes. " If anyone can enlighten me, this will solve one of our family's great mysteries.
