Guest guest
Hi Mary, I'm just getting started myself because of acid reflux problems. Going towards vegetarian has helped much better than any pills prescribed by the doctor. I have a juicer and we just started with a basic recipe: 1 green apple ( taste is sweeter than red) 2 stalks celery 4 (or more) carrots To that basic juice I will add the following depending on my mood: Nickel size piece of ginger-great when you feel a cold coming on. Also helps soothe stomach. Not too much though cause it's spicy. A couple of handfuls of greens-kale, spinach, etc. Quarter of a lemon A handful of parsley My son doesn't like veggies, so he will even juice romaine into his basic recipe. I haven't tried this recipe yet, but I'm told it's good. Green Smoothie: * 2 large mangos, 1 bunch parsley, water * 6 peaches, 2 handfuls spinach leaves, water * 2 mangos, 1 handful wild weeds (e.g. lambs quarters, stinging nettles, purslane), water * 1 cup strawberries, 2 bananas, 1/2 bunch romaine lettuce, water * 4 apples, 1/2 lemon juiced, 4-5 leaves kale, water * 4 very ripe kiwis, 1 ripe banana, 3 stalks celery, water * 4 ripe pears, 4-5 leaves kale, 1/2 bunch mint, water * 10 finger-bananas, 2 handfuls of spinach leaves, water * 3 bosch pears, 1 handful raspberries, 4-5 leaves kale, water * 1 small pineapple, 1 large mango, 1/2 head romaine lettuce, 1-inch fresh ginger HTH, Melanie _____ On Behalf Of mary40 Wednesday, May 09, 2007 10:13 PM saying hey Hi to all, Thanks for allowing me to join. I must say that I KNOW NOTHING about being a vegetarian except that I believe that I will be HEALTHIER for it. I come from a long line of " meat eaters " having been raised in a rural south Texas town where every summer we would butcher a calf or two so that we would have meat for the winter. So now I am grown, am 49 years old and am on a ton of medicine because I have such severe acid reflux that my GI doc says I also have Barrett's Esophagus. For those of you who are unfamiliar w/the term, it is high possibility of precancerious membrane in the esophagus. So, am trying to seek out things that will keep me alive just a little while longer. My first really dumb(I think) question is: On veggies, I usually don't have time to have raw or fresh all the time. But I've also heard that cooking them takes all the nutrients out of them. What is the best way to eat veggies? Plus, I'm not/never been a real big fan of veggies, so will have to work my way into this veggie thing. And, what else can I eat? I am sure that the group have lists of foods/recipes etc to look at. I just purchased my first juicer and have no clue how to make anything. Anyway, just some really elementary stuff, but thats all for now. Later, Mary in Oklahoma
