Guest guest
We use Texmati 100% certified organic brown rice. It is delicious and my children (5 and 8) love it. Denise Tina M. Hood <surmisez Monday, April 23, 2007 12:21:03 PM Suggestions needed for best brown rice I'm looking for suggestions on the best brown rice. I am trying to wean my family off of white rice due to our health issues (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, weight issues, etc). To that end, I recently purchased the Zojirushi Fuzzy Logic Induction Heating Rice Cooker. It has a GABA setting that will activate the GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in brown rice and make the rice softer and more edible. GABA is said to lower blood pressure and relieve stress. So, if anyone has a favorite type or brand of brown rice, please let me know. TIA
Guest guest
Yes, I've tried the brown basmati before. My husband and children didn't care for the crunchiness of it. That is why I purchased this particular rice cooker. I believe my family will eat brown rice if it's softer. The GABA Brown setting works as follows (quoted directly from the manual): " When GABA BROWN is selected on the menu, the Rice Cooker will begin activating the brown rice, after which it will start cooking automatically. During the brown rice activation process, the temperature in the Inner Cooking Pan is kept at about 104°F for 2 hours. Cooking may take 3 hours and 10 minutes to 3 hours and 15 minutes till completion. " The Rice Cooker has a timer function which allows you to tell it what time you need the rice done. I have not used this function yet, but will probably do so when cooking brown rice due to the length of time involved. , " Erin " <truepatriot wrote: > > Have you tried brown basmati? > It's sweeter than your standard brown. > > Very interesting about a " GABA setting " on > your rice cooker.
