It was difficult for me to fathom, too, but the reasons why are somewhat

complicated.

I have been a Vegetarian for 25 years and before that for many years

ate only occasionally chicken and fish. I seldom eat/use any

animal 'product' so hope to eventually become a Vegan.

I love reading all of these encouraging stories! I became a vegetarian in

January of this year after reading a news article about cloned meat. The fact

that cloned meat would be on the supermarket shelves and would not necessarily

be labeled completely freaked me out. That was it for me!

A week or two into my vegetarian journey, I found Dr. Neal Barnard's books and

website and started transitioning to veganism.

No one else in my family is vegetarian/vegan, so I am so grateful for all the

support and information here!

Hi everyone! (ooh, my second post! Yay!)

I was a relaxed vegetarian for years before becoming completely vegan

sometime around august of last year. I never liked meat (the smell

always turns my stomach), and preferred healthier foods. Once I

realized how bad cream was for my tummy (I'd added it to my coffee

every morning without noticing they were the cause of my

stomachaches!), I made the switch to soymilk early last year. I only

ate eggs on rare occasion, so it was easy to avoid them. Eating a

purely vegan diet makes one actually THINK about the food you're

putting into your body. I feel so much better knowing that there are no

animal parts running through my system (eew), and have a lot more

energy. And looking at the big picture, it makes me feel like I am more

justified when I say I'm a total Pacifist - for humans and animals

alike.

It's cool to read everyone's stories, so I thought I'd share my little

one, too. This is an awesome mailing list. :)

I became interested in vegetarianism way back in high school. But

didn't make the full commitment until about 2 years ago. I met Jim last

year; he's been vegetarian about 25 years (since having chest pains

before age 30) and both my kids are vegetarians as well. Cyndy

I've been vegetarian for more than a year, though I don't remember exactly when

I

intentionally ate my last meat. My husband went veg in July of 2005. Our much

beloved

guinea pig died and he suddenly couldn't eat meat any more while mourning the

little

herbivore, and even more when more guinea pigs moved in with us in August of

that year.

He thought they were looking at him when he ate his roast beef. I gather he'd

been having

difficulty with it before, but that pushed him over the edge. I panicked, to be

honest,

because I didn't know what I'd cook for him. He's a tall guy and can EAT. But I

quickly

cobbled together enough stuff to keep us fed and only ate meat when I was out of

the

house. Within a couple of months, I pretty much stopped eating meat at all. It

started off

as avoiding cooking two separate menus and became a lifestyle, I guess. :-)
