Guest guest
I'll come out of the woodwork here. I've been reading a lot. I'm on a mostly vegan diet now because I'm on an anti-inflammatory /food allergy diet, with an extremly low fat/cholesterol value. My son is autistic and is 16 years old. When we go somewhere, or when he is at school, he eats what he likes as long as it applies to the Levitical Law in the Bible. At home, he eats what I eat which is 95 percent or more vegan. He hasn't complained at all, and enjoys all that I have cooked. I cooked a black bean soup with tomatoes yesterday and he was raving over and over about it. In fact, he ate almost all of it himself. I guess I have to cook some more! (laughing) But I think my point is that even an autistic child can be converted to this type of living. My son is high functioning and I taught him the nutrition rules about what is good and bad for you, and that has imprinted on him. I told him that vegetables are good for your immune system, and he had a sinus infection last month which was awful -- and he hsa done nothing but eatten vegetables and fruit to the " nth " degree so that he will be supported in this fashion. I found that vegetable trays are marked down at teh grocery store on Thursday, and buy them now. He loves them. Whatever we eat, we put the tray out and he gets his fresh veggies and eats them on his own. I really believe these children can change if we teach them in a fashion that they can understand so that they will feel better about themselves and their own body. Guest guest
Seitan is made from wheat protein--I have, in the past, dealt with autistic children, one of them being my brother. I understand that a lot of people who are autistic may also be unable utilize wheat. I recall my brother having a bloated stomach as a child. He got better when we took him off wheat and other things--I cannot recall the other offending things. Kathleen My son is autistic and is 16 years old. Guest guest
My grandson is also high functioning autistic. His mother refuses to see any connection, but I can tell within minutes of being around him if he has been eating wheat. Katie " Kathleen M.
