Guest guest
That is nice that you can have a garden at your condo. So many condo associations have such restrictive rules about what you can do and not do. So many won't even let you put a plant on a patio. I'm glad you have found one that allows for this. I know when we lived in Atlanta, I looked for a neighborhood that didn't have a home owner assos. because I was sick of all the red tape and hissy fits when you wanted to do something on your own property. " No neighborhood Association " was a requirement of ours before buying and you can find them in many very nice neighborhoods. We have always had very nicely landscaped yards, so that wasn't the issue. The issue was someone telling me what I could and couldn't do on my own property. Folks on those boards go crazy (and on little power trips)with restrictions. I hope your veggie garden turns out beautiful. I have used the square foot gardening method for about 20 years now and LOVE IT. The garden grows like crazy and it is easy to mantain. http://www.squarefootgardening.com/ It is great to use in a small space like you have. I have loads of yard now and still use this method, because you get lots of produce this way in a small space and it is easy on the back and body. We do a lot of vertical gardening and made our own trellis for this. Neighbors love to come and look at the garden and they always marvel at how great it looks. Happy gardening. Guest guest
Oh yeah! They've got their rules and occasionally we've suffered because of them. But we're in the safest city in the state and with two small kids I'd rather be safe and semi restricted than unsafe and have neighbors who are free to do whatever they please whenever. Some of the rules are annoying but help in the long run. By rule we had to have alll visible Christmas decorations down by Jan 15th. Might seem annoying or even restictive to most, but it gave me a reason to finally get everything down. Thanks for the site reference, I will definately check it out! Anything that will help me make the most of my space! Guest guest
Most folks are decent about things like that. I don't remember ever seeing outside decorations left up anywhere past Jan 15. I don't think it makes you safer at all to have all those rules. There are lots of safe places to live, well as safe as any place can be, because anybody can show up in any neighborhood. I think things like assos. give folks a false sense of safety. It just reminds me to much of one person in a huge school causes issues and rather than addressing it with that one person, every one suffers from extra rules. Anyways......... LOL on to more fun topics of food. I think you'd really enjoy the Square foot Gardening book. It is so helpful in getting started and makes it all so easy to understand and make. Have fun with those herbs and other veggies. I've got some cabbage and mustard greens growing in mine thru the winter months. Last summer I grew, several varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, several kinds of peppers, pole beans, okra, butter beans, beets, eggplant, butternut squash, yellow squash, Zuchinni, carrots, radishes, marigolds and Nasturiums(to keep the insects away) and probably more that I am forgetting. Then in pots on the patio, I grew basil, rosemary, garlic chives, cilantro, parsley and dill. Have a lot of fun growing your garden, Judy Judy - " Elizabeth Jackson " <hotmamatigger Thursday, February 15, 2007 10:29 AM Re: New Member-Elizabeth and gardens > Oh yeah!
