Ah well, my children really were/are beautiful :-)

Jo

I can't believe that people treat not-so-beautiful children any

differently!!!

ppl treat first second third borns differently, so, some folks might treat children they think of as less attractive differently...they might lavish attention on the *pretty one*, and ignore the one they deem isn't quite up to their er societies standards... I think they've missed something very important in this study.... I think

they've got cause and effect the wrong way round....

Perhaps I'm weird (Fraggle.... just hold that thought), but I always think

that beauty comes from within - if you feel beautiful, then you are

beautiful, whatever your facial features happen to be... and if your parents

don't give you a lot of time, then you're probably going to feel less

beautiful...

I think that makes sense.

ppl treat first second third borns differently, so, some folks might treat children they think of as less attractive differently...they might lavish attention on the *pretty one*, and ignore the one they deem isn't quite up to their er societies standards...~~~~~~~~~~I can say that this is true. I was constantly compared to my older sister. She was very small framed, tall, blond, size 2 on a fat day, total literal blond bombshell. I've always been built different, and could never look like her no matter how low my weight would be. My mother always made snide comments to me about how pretty she was and how I was too much of a tomboy etc... She was a gymnast and my parents forced me into it to make me more girly... I looked like a boy in a pink tootoo it was horrific.

Of course now she's a drug addict with no job and I'm a PhD student with low self-image. Overall, I think I won the deal.
