Fw: Moderator's comments

Hi everyone

 

Must be that time of year again when I have to put on the moderators hat and look over the top of my glasses at you....

 

There's obviously some rising tensions, so something needs to be said!!!

 

Firstly... the threads concerning "naturalness", and "parentage", need to stop right away, since these are causing some major problems. Although no-one has yet strayed over the line of being blatantly rude, there have been a few comments which people could take (and have taken) as being insulting toward their life-choices. I don't feel that anyone has intended this, but people should be a little more careful about how they phrase what they want to say to consider how it might affect others. This isn't intended as a "permanant ban" on the topics - just a "drop the current conversation before it gets nasty (er)".

 

Secondly... if people are arranging local parties... please do it off-list. This is only polite, since the 500+ members of the list who don't live in your neck of the woods really aren't going to be interested in a party you're holding! I know that sometimes a conversation that started off general goes down one of these alleys, but just try to think of the rest of us!!

 

Thirdly... if a conversation is going on that you don't understand (and it does happen, since we all have different interests).... just ask. I'm sure people will be happy to explain any jargon they may be using!

 

So, basically, just give a little thought to how other people on the list might be affected by what you say, and we should all be able to get back to a happy, friendly list.

 

Also, as a polite reminder, if anyone wants to dicuss *this* e-mail, please do so with the moderators off-list (we're a perfectly reasonable bunch, but other list members do get rather tetchy if we have long-winded discussion on moderation issues on list!)
