Guest guest
Thanks Jo for the book recommendation! You I know there are lots of different things I can eat. My problem is, although I am very disciplined with the meat and dairy issue...it is hard for me to say "no" to wheat...because I absolutely crave bean burritos and bread sometimes! Like today...went out to lunch with mum at Wild Oats and having soup without bread just seems sacrilege! ; ) No seriously...I can say no to desserts and sugary things..no problem...dairy and meat...also no problem...but so hard for me to cut out wheat completely. Try and try again. Kristina In a message dated 1/27/05 11:29:04 A.M. At one time I was on a strict diet for intolerances (for six months) and had to cut out normal wheat, orange, peanuts, tomatoes and a couple of other things (can't remember now). I was lucky in that I could eat spelt, already knew I was not good with orange and peanuts - tomatoes was difficult because of all the dinners and salads I had them in. I seem to be okay with tomatoes now, can have peanuts sometimes, especially if I haven't eaten any wheat (including spelt) in the same day. I am still not too good with orange. There is a book called 'Vegetarian Cooking Without (Recipes free from added gluten, sugar, yeast, diary products, meat, fish, saturated fat)' which I used. It is by Barbara Cousins. I would recommend that for a start. There are plenty of rice dishes you can make, and for lunch you can use rice cakes/crackers with the same items that you used with bread. Some people can also use rye crackers. If you sit down and make a list of the things you can eat, it is quite encouraging. Don't forget that things like gravy granules, soy sauce etc. have wheatflour in.Jo - Peter Wednesday, January 26, 2005 6:16 PM Re: Anyone else avoid wheat and sugar here? Hi Kristina > I was curious...are any of you on a diet where you try to avoid wheat and sugar as well as being vegan? > Anyone else try to avoid wheat? It depends on what you mean by "wheat" - if you just mean the regular stuff in bread, then it's easy to find alternatives (such as spelt wheat). If you mean all gluten based products, then I should imagine that would be quite a bit harder! BB Peter
