Guest guest
I agree that we'd be better off if we relied more on natural living than drugs...but there is another truth here. No drug will be made UNLESS there are huge profits because it won't be worth it for them to put all the time and energy in getting the drug out there. So unless a lot of people use a certain drug it probably would not be available. I am not sure I want that either. Kristina In a message dated 1/12/05 5:33:22 A.M. I think the problem is that due to the power of pharmaceutical companies, we are rapidly turning into a "medication culture", where it is assumed that any problem is best fixed with a pill, whereas many would be better fixed with diet or lifestyle changes. A change in attitude to that way of thinking would reduce the amount of drugs taken by the majority of people considerably, and the focus of pharmaceutical companies could then be put into developing better drugs for people who genuinely need them, rather than to the job of making huge profits.BBPeter

I am not sure I want that either. That works on the assumption that profit is the only driving force in the world. However, if governments were to nationalise the pharmaceutical industries, profit would no longer be a driving force, and drugs could be produced in quantities that are appropriate for the people who genuinely need them. I think I prefer that than seeing millions of people suffer from the side effects of drugs which they don't need. Don't you agree? Correcting such issues is not east. Sadly, in my personal opinion things will get a lot worse before the trend reverses.
