Guest guest
as many are aware PETA in the USA has started a campaign to boycott Australian Wool and target wool producers to stop Mulesing and live export, well the campaign has picked up speed here ya go ITALIANS AGAINST MULESING Special service by AGI on behalf of the Italian Prime Minister's office ENVIRONMENT: ANIMALIST REPORT, SHEEP TORTURED IN AUSTRALIA(AGI) Rome, Italy, December 13 – The soft, warm wool coming from Australia hides an un atrocious secret: Sheep and lamb on the fifth continent undergo " atrocious mutilations and maltreatments " says a dossier with a shocking film presented by Animalisti Italiani " . The images clearly show atrocious violence " , said Ilaria Ferri, of the Captivity and Environment Marine Sectors if the Association of Italian Animalists underlining that " they show how every year 80 pct. of Australian sheep undergo a cruel and mutilating practice called " mulesing " : The sheep are put on their back, with their legs blocked by metal bars, and they with no kind of aesthetic, with a pair of scissors, breeders cut the flesh around the tail, thus creating a large injury the size of a dinner plate, so as to obtain a smooth area with no wool, to stop insects nesting " . But things actually go differently as explained Ferri again, " the injury needs over a month to form a scar and exposed as it is it is an ideal substrata for infections and insects. Because of this barbaric mutilation, animals cannot walk for days and researchers have scientifically proven that they feel extreme pain manifesting consequent behaviour " . There are many alternatives to 'mulesing', warn the Animalisti Italiani, practiced by 20 pct. of more sensitive breeders: insecticides, preventive vaccinations, controlling insects in the environment and specific diet. But the horrors do not end here. According to the dossier of the animalists, when sheep are no longer used for wool (circa 7 million a year) they are put on enormous cargos heading for Arab and African countries where those surviving the extenuating journey " are in any case destined to die brutally " . The Animalisti Italiani have asked for an urgent meeting with the Australian Ambassador Peter Woolcott to show him the dossier and ask his country to forbid once and for all these sheep. In case their request is not accepted, they suggest boycotting Australian products in Italy. (AGI) -132038 DIC
