From the BBC website - makes me cross - they say the sheep didn't suffer - not like losing your life is suffering, I suppose. (I know it would have been killed as meat sooner or later anyway).

Armed police shoot errant sheep

The sheep was a "danger", say policeA sheep was shot by armed police on Saturday after wandering on to busy roads from a roundabout in Swindon.

The animal took up residence on the Commonhead roundabout near the Great Western Hospital at 9am, before being shot in a nearby field. The owner could not be traced, despite the efforts of local farmers and vets, but the animal did not suffer unnecessarily, said police. A Wiltshire police spokeswoman said the sheep was a danger to the public. "It was standing on the roundabout and at times wandering into the carriageway," she said. "A decision was made to deploy armed police officers to destroy the animal as an absolute last resort."

A danger to the public, armed officers! what are farmers specially trained in handling these vicious beasties?!, for f**k sake ITS A SHEEP!. What damage could it do to you if you approached it with a bale of hay and a rope? nibble your bum? Take it from a Welsh man, sheep are not blessed with a particularly high IQ, nor are they particularly subversive. Could`nt a local farmer have taken it? What a waste of public resources, time and effort, and on the sheeps part the ultimate price of all.
