Guest guest
It's up to you Clementine, If you wish to then you can. I had not seen e-mail or newsletter about your program in AAPN neither active participation nor your Fund Requests. If we @ PAWS do small brochure release then we make a small e-mail & circulate over many . This gives contacts. We raised funds; we do our own publicity & inspire other to do the same. My monthly e-mail newsletters idea was picked-up by many NGO's in India (Not sure..but I feel.. ) not only animal NGO's but in karmayog 's NGO's started sending newsletters. In first year of incorporation in 2001 we started this service. Which has benefited a lot. It up-to you how use utilize the forum. Example: When Praveen of HOPE found that his payments were due we replied in same forum that he should speak to AWBI & Maneka (With contact Nos.). He did what we said & got the funds. He even thanked the group for rendering help. Until & Unless you are going share your difficulties then how you expect a " Connection of your Work " with this group. Absorbed by project- proposals, annual report, accounts, lack of money, management problems, legal problems with courtcases, securing proper treatment for the animals under our care etc.I feel desparate most of the time. I would not deal with any of this if those animals were not in our care. Over the years my opinions have changed but I dont care for them as they dont contribute much for the animal at my hand. I will from aapn and I dont think I will make it to the conference. Guest guest
Dear Clementine, There is certainly no point in your continuing to to AAPN if you don't find it useful. But I worry that you might feel even more desperate without this connection to the larger world. If you don't feel the issues discussed are relevant to your situation, there are two things you can do. 1. Post to AAPN presenting your difficulties and see if you get a response from other rs. There are more than 500 people on the list most of whom remain silent - there may well be others with similar problems to your own. 2. Post to AAPN informing the group that you are starting your own internet group dedicated to your kind of problems. With best wishes. John, Moderator, AAPN. ________________________________ aapn [aapn ] On Behalf Of Clementien Pauws Monday, June 09, 2008 4:05 PM aapn disconnect Dear All, Reading the mails over the last few weeks I personally feel more and more disconnected to what may be called " the Animal Welfare Community " I sincerely hope that the exchange of ideas will help the animals one way or the other but I cannot discover any connection to my day to day work in the shelter and rescue work. Guest guest
Dear Clementine and All, To me, AAPN is a very valuable platform. Although I remain silent most of the time and only skim thru most of the posts, AAPN gives me mainly the following benefits: 1) mutual support -- it constantly reminds me that I am not alone. Lots of people are fighting some battles somewhere. 2) gives me a sense of the scale of the problems (and some solutions) 3) share experience 4) reminds me how little I have done One of the biggest obstacles with AR movement is our small numbers (compared with the larger population who made animal exploitation a legitimized human agenda, culture and routine of daily life). So, I would treasure every chance that brings together like-minded people from disparate location and cultures. When our population reaches a certain number, synergy is possible. But without collective platforms like AAPN, we never know what our number is. Nobody out there in the cold world will do a population census for us. Although, as John said, we have 500 people on the list, we have potential to grow and synergize with other groups. Having said that, one of my comment to AAPN is that there seemed to be a lot of " emotion venting " in many of the posts. I understand that some venting is necessary to keep the fire burning, but too much of it will drown out important messages and issues. We ARAs already have tons of info to digest every day. Too much emotion to read will only burn us out. I do wish platforms like AAPN would be put to better and more efficient use. In this regard, I must thank Dr John Wedderburn for sometimes gatekeeping some of my overly emotional messages. Often, I look back on these messages and regret I have sent them out. Luckily, we have John as the moderator. Somebody commented that AAPN is quite India-centric. It may be, but I guess it's only because Indian people are more outspoken than other Asian counterparts. That's a good thing for us to learn from, not blame on. Let's contribute more.
