A restaurant in Brighton has put meat back on its menu on the day the city

celebrates being named the best UK destination for vegetarians.

Owners of the restaurant, which has been vegetarian for three years, say the

move is because of changing tastes.

Tim Cramp, of Wai Kika Moo Kau, said visitors expected a wider ranging menu.

The restaurateur said: " We have a lot of tourists and people down for day

trips and they want to see a wider range of things on the menu. "

He added: " Many people want to see meat and fish, as well as vegetarian

dishes, so we are responding to that. "

On Monday, a reception was being held at the mayor's parlour at Brighton and

Hove City Council to celebrate the city being voted the best UK vegetarian

destination by the Vegetarian Society.

Vegetarians not only flock to Brighton for food - the city is also home to

an award-winning shoe designer selling leather-free footwear.

Brighton mayor, councillor Pat Drake, said: " The nomination is a tremendous

tribute.

" Everyone involved in the food sector has earned this award by providing

good, healthy food that can be enjoyed by everyone. "
