Okra - Does anyone knows why this veggie is called lady-fingers - Diane

" Lady's Finger " seems to be an English, as in empire, construction. Perhaps we

should ask

Lizzie Collingham. " Okra " is a corruption of an Igbo [Nigerian aboriginal] word,

the original

of which my mail program cannot emulate.

I haven't cooked it for myself (I should learn how) :) I like to

order Bhindi Masala when we eat out & also like a brand of

ready-to-eat curries called " MTR " . They are $1.99 at my favorite

Indian store and almost $4 at the regular market lol.
