Guest guest
Hi, My name is Christine and I am owned by 5 dogs and 9 parrots. My parrots range in size from budgies to Orange Winged Amazons. My parrots are vegetarians and the only meat type protein is from cooked egg yolk which I give them twice a month. I am interested in perhaps becoming a vegetarian or learning how to make tasty and nutritious vegetarian meals for myself and parrots to share and enjoy. Yes, there are numerous parrot related groups out there but none are promoting vegetarian diet for parrots and humans to share together. I already make some organic rice and beans dishes to share and I think we are getting kind of bored with that. So I hope you dont' mind if I pick up some tips on veggie/fruit/sprout/legumes/grain nutrition for myself and my feathered companions. Right now I make us a fresh veggie and fruit salad for our morning meal. It consists of 100 percent organic ingredients. I pulse one ingredient at a time in my food processor. The salad will contain several variations of the following: kale, collard greens, sweet red bell pepper, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, zucchini, acorn or butternut squash, fresh ginger, red radish, and always an apple and 1/2 lemon or 1 whole orange or 1/2 red grapefruit. This all gets mixed together with Ezekiel cereal to soak up the fruit and veggie juices. When my husband was alive, we all ate this for breakfast adding raw, soaked almonds or walnuts or raisins. During the spring and summer and fall I garden and can therefore usually pretty much harvest each morning or evening for our meal. Christine E.
